Wedding Day Planner

Planning your wedding day can be so overwhelming and even a little bit nerve-wracking, so having the right wedding day planner is SO important! There are so many things to think about and bringing all your ideas together requires time and energy. If you want to make the absolute most out of getting some insane photo and film opportunities, allowing the right amount of time for this is so important!

Pre-Ceremony

We like to arrive nice and early to ease into the day without having to rush. We love to meet everyone and make everyone involved in the bridal party feel natural and comfortable around us and our cameras. This is our secret to  having beautiful, natural images! We also spend more time with the bride than the groom because we find that’s where most of the action is taking place – hair, makeup and dresses tend to be more time-consuming than suits.

The Ceremony

We love to plan the family group photos immediately after the ceremony to save time, while all your guests are together. Family photos can be done as quickly as 15 minutes but the key to this is preparation. At our pre-wedding meetings we ask the bride and groom to choose one reliable person (e.g. maid of honour) to be in charge of photo organisation. We have the bride/groom make a list and give that list to us and the person in charge who can help organise everyone. This way we can smash through the family photo formalities in record timing and go and have fun with the bridal party!

The Portraits

When it comes to couple portraits it’s always best to chat to your photographer/videographer to come up with a plan of action. We shoot anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour and a half when capturing portraits, depending on how many locations you want to travel to and how much time you have scheduled.

Photography is all about capturing light, the better the light the more stunning and natural the images. We believe the best time for portraits is in the ‘golden hour’, when the sun is setting and the light is becoming softer, warmer and gives an incredible glow. We sometimes sneak our couples away for 10 minutes during reception if we see the perfect opportunity for a quick sunset shoot. We can’t get enough of sunset content!

How to Plan Your Wedding in Different Seasons

We love winter weddings… Especially here in Brisbane because we are less prone to sweating all day long! Winter weddings are a dream for photographers/videographers with the soft, warm lighting. If you are planning your wedding remember to plan for shorter daylight hours and an earlier sunset. We always like to suggest moving your ceremony time back an hour to leave time for us to capture your portraits as the sun goes down.

There is something so special about Summer weddings… We love a good summer’s day but remember the sun is usually much brighter and harsher, especially during the middle of the day. We always recommend pushing your ceremony later in the evening when the light isn’t so bright and HOT! Also think about shade for the guests who are standing around during the ceremony, this can help avoid squinty eyes throughout your ceremony and portraits. An hour later, under some shade is usually perfect!

When planning your big day, keep some of these handy tips up your back pocket and pull them out as you need. The most important thing to remember is that preparation is key and allow time for your photographer to create magic without being under time pressure.
